Day 20: Hanaga pass (歯長峠)

Approaching to Hanaga-pass

There was a lot of snow on the road to the Hanaga-pass, and I was wondering if the steep climb ahead was really all right.

The board saying Hanaga-pass is 20 minutes away from here

The old Henro route is closed…

Just after walking a bit from the the sign that says the pass is 20 minutes away from here, I find another sign saying the road is closed. It seems that the slope had collapsed and not been repaired yet. So I decided to go through Hanaga tunnel. Honestly it was quite dark and bit scary since there’s no one around and even no car passed through at all in the end…

Hanaga tunnel

Phew, entered in Seiyo city safely 🙂

After passing the pass, and walking for a while, I found a sign about “Michibiki-Daishi” so I approached to it. Then I was really surprised to see a strange looking pilgrim in that little hut…I wondered if he was sheltering from the cold there. Anyway, it was a bit creepy…
