Day 31: No.76 Konzo-ji (金倉寺)

The precincts of Konzo-ji are quite large, and the first thing I saw was a number of large camphor trees. In front of the main temple, which has quite wide roof, there is something sparkling. As I approached, it turned out to be Daikokuten (a god of wealth) covered with gold leaf. At Konzo-ji, there …

Day 31: No.75 Zentsu-ji (善通寺)

On the way from Koyama-ji to Zentsu-ji, I found an udon-noodle making factory called Miyagawa Seimen-sho. Kagawa is famous for udon-noodle, and there’re many really good small udon restaurants (they made their own noodle). I didn’t go in because it was still early in the morning (and I had a breakfast already), but a restaurant …

Day 31: No.74 Kouyama-ji (甲山寺)

This small main gate appeared rather suddenly, while I was walking through a relaxing countryside landscape. I just wondered if this was for No.74 Kouyama-ji. The precincts of the temple is small enough to have the main temple, Taishi-do, and a hall dedicated to Bishamonten. Although the temple was simple, the precincts was well maintained, …

Day 31: No.73 Shusshaka-ji (出釈迦寺)

A little further up from Mandala-ji, there is Shusshaka-ji. This temple is also small, and interestingly, the main temple and Taishi-do are attached to each other. The inner temple, Shashin-ga-dake-zenjyo, looks actually interesting, but it requires more than 50 minutes climbing, so I gave up this time and worship from here. When Kobo-Daishi was seven …

Day 31: No.72 Mandara-ji (曼陀羅寺)

Despite the rather small main gate, the precincts were quite spacious. The hanging plum trees were blooming nicely. The old guides of the sacred temples of Shikoku mention the existence of the “Furo-no-matsu (Ageless pine tree)”, a pine tree planted by Kobo-Daishi that is over 1,200 years old. It is less than 4 meters high …

Day 31: Route & Timetable

Although I was worried about the rain yesterday, I decided to take a shortcut through the mountains to Mandala-ji. The rain didn’t have much effect on the path, but it was a bit rough, probably because no one was walking on it in winter. It was sunny and windless today, and the clouds and mountains …
