Prologue

Prologue of the journey

Winter, 2017. At the age of 44, I finally set foot upon the pigrimage path of Shikoku.

What began at Temple No. 1, Ryozen-ji, transformed into a 1,200-kilometer odyssey where physical endurance met profound inner reflection over 35 days. I created this digital archive to preserve my own memories, hoping they might offer some light to future pilgrims or bring the spirit of Shikoku to those who cannot walk the path themselves — the memories of 107 sacred sites, the many people met along the way, the 6 cm lost from my waistline, and the 15 cm of my kongozue (walking staff) worn away by the entire Shikoku pilgrimage on foot.

Watch the spiritual summary of a 1,200km journey through the eyes of Salaryman Ohenro-san. I created a video by an AI Navigator (NotebookLM), which provides a comprehensive overview of my 35-day journey, capturing the essence of the “1,200km of Discovery.” You can also find a short video explaining about what you need to know before your journey, and a glimpse of what you’ll find and enjoy beyond 88 temples.
